Channel Z Productions

About Us

Channel Z Productions is a theater organization based in Saratoga Springs, NY, and founded by Irma and Jeannette Zehr in 1999. It has always been Channel Z’s mission to bring unique theater experiences to the NYS Capital District.

The company began by working with local Saratoga teen actors, and our Youth Wing has continued through the years to be a large part of our work. We have provided many educational training programs in the technical and performing arts for teens, taught by theater professionals.

In 2006 we expanded our organization with the introduction of an adult ensemble.
We present experimental and rarely produced plays and musicals, enhancing and contributing to the cultural awareness within the community.

In our many years we have participated in the Saratoga Arts Fest and the Victorian Street Walk. We have led classes in acting, stage combat and technical theater, and collaborated with local college theater students. Our projects also involve volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together. We emphasize an overall learning process that is positive and supportive of each individual's unique talents and attributes. The staff is a group of highly trained professionals with decades of experience in all aspects of theater production.

We are dedicated to creating cutting edge theater with local actors, directors and designers. We hope to continue to grow, and to provide the Capital District with exceptional theater experiences for many years to come!

Our Mission Statement

1. To develop, maintain and operate a professional theatre company for all ages in Saratoga County.

2. To present classical, experimental and rarely produced play and musicals, enhancing and contributing to the cultural awareness within the community.
3. To create an educational training program in the technical and performing arts for teens taught by theatre professionals.
4. To provide a safe environment for young people to be empowered and encourage the growth of healthy self-esteem through exploring, performing and participating in various aspects of theatre production.

Our History

Channel Z began in 1999 as Saratoga Theatreworks, an after school program at the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs. During our time with the Waldorf School we established a connection with Caffe Lena. Having the black box theatre to work from encouraged us to expand our company. We opened our doors to students from all the local schools and thus was born Channel Z Productions Young Adult Ensemble. Our goal was to provide a professional theater experience for both young actors and those interested in the technical side of theater.

In 2006 we again expanded our organization with the introduction of an adult ensemble. That year we also began a mentoring program with Skidmore College, providing an opportunity for theater majors to direct shows using both our teen and adult groups.

Over the years we have produced many outstanding pieces with our Young Adult Ensemble including Godspell, Pippin, Two Gentlemen of Verona and many others. With our Adult Ensemble we have also put on many productions including Rashomon, Bug and The Last Five Years.

In our many years we have also been fortunate enough to participate in the Saratoga Arts Fest, the Victorian Street Walk, and provide classes in acting, stage combat and technical theater with other local professionals. We hope to continue to grow and be able to provide the area with exceptional theater experiences for many years to come!
